You are finally getting some time to relax after a tiring day at work. You switch off the lights, lie down on your bed and let sleep take over you. But then there comes a constant chirping noise from somewhere outside your window and you can’t get back to sleep again. This is when you start wondering how crickets make noise. And more importantly, how do I get rid of cricket noise at night? If this is something that you too have been struggling with, read on to know all the home remedies to get rid of crickets at night.

How To Get Rid Of Cricket Noise At Night

1. Use white noise

This is one of the most effective ways to get rid of crickets at night. This is because it gives a soothing sound that masks the noise made by crickets. You can also use a fan to create white noise.

2. Use a fan

You can use a fan to create white noise and mask the sound made by crickets. If you want to get rid of crickets at night, this is one of the best remedies you can try out.

3. Use an air conditioner

If you have an air conditioner in your room, you can turn on it and let it run for some time before you go to sleep. This will not only drown out the noise made by crickets but also help cool down your room in the process. Otherwise, if it’s summertime, keep moving around in your room so that the heat does not build up inside your room overnight as well as keep away from windows so that flies and other insects cannot enter your house through them. Or else, you can also set up fans or use an air conditioner all around your house so that they do not gather there overnight and make some kind of racket inside your home while you are sleeping. You can also try using a bird cage or any other kind of cage near windows or doors where they gather at night to avoid them from entering indoors through these places too much during daytime hours when you are sleeping at night.

4. Use a fan and/or air conditioner

You can use a fan and/or air conditioner to shut off the noise of crickets at night. You can also try using a fan with two speeds or even a combination of both the fans to drown out the noise made by crickets at night. You can also use an air conditioner or fan to cool down your room and make it more comfortable for you to sleep at night. This is especially useful if you are living in an area where it gets very hot during daytime hours and gets too humid at night as well.

5. Get rid of crickets

This is perhaps one of the most effective ways to get rid of crickets at night as well as other insects that may be making noise in your house while you are sleeping at nighttime. You can first check if there are any insects inside your house by opening windows or doors in order to check if there are any insects inside your home that might be making noise while you are sleeping at nighttime, but don’t open up doors or windows too much when doing so as this might allow flies and other insects into your home through these openings too much during daytime hours when you are not trying to sleep for some reason like going out for work, etc., which might disturb you, thus making it difficult for you to get back to sleep again after doing so because of all these noises that keep bothering you since they keep making noise at night.

What Causes Cricket Noise At Night?

Cricket Noise At Night Is Caused By Female Crickets

Crickets make noise at night because female crickets are in heat. Female crickets of the common species of crickets make a shrill chirping noise to attract males. The chirping is so loud that it can be heard from a distance. When the sound of this sound reaches the male cricket, he will respond by flying to her location and mating with her.

Cricket Noise At Night Is Caused By Male Crickets

Male crickets make noise at night as well but not for mating purposes but for territorial reasons. The male cricket will emit a high-pitched noise to scare off other male crickets nearby so that he may stake his claim on their territory and be able to mate with them later on.

Cricket Noise At Night Is Caused By The Eggs Of Female Crickets

If you have noticed that your curtains are covered in small holes, then it is because female crickets have laid eggs above the curtains and they have been laying eggs there for a long time now. The eggs are covered by a thin layer of wax and they do not cause any harm to your curtains or bed sheets but they do cause some annoyance as they keep making a chirping noise all through the night due to which you find it difficult to sleep at night as well as during daytime hours too! Male crickets also lay eggs and they too make noise at night. The difference is that the chirping sound that the male cricket emits is not as loud as the chirping sound that female crickets emit. How To Repel Crickets

1. Vinegar

The best way to repel crickets is by using vinegar. Crickets hate the smell of vinegar, so place a bowl of vinegar outside your window. This will act as a deterrent for these creepy bugs. Spray some water on it and keep it in place for some time. By doing this, you are acting as a barrier between the insects and your window.

2. Salt

Salt is another natural remedy that works well to get rid of crickets at night. Place some salt in a bowl near your window and keep it there overnight to keep the insects away from your room during the night hours. Leaving salt near your window can also help you sleep better at night because it will give you relief from mosquitoes, flies, and other insects that may be present around you.

3. Peppermint Oil Or Essential Oil Of Peppermint Or Spearmint

Peppermint oil or essential oil of peppermint or spearmint is also known to work very well in getting rid of crickets at night and this can be done with two methods: 1) by adding peppermint leaves into the water in a jug or 2) by adding a few drops of peppermint oil or essential oil into some water and placing them close to your bedside table overnight or when leaving the room for rest during the night hours. You can also place peppermint sprigs in an ice tray which you can put inside your freezer for about 24 hours for a similar effect.

4. Make A Peppermint Foot Soother

Peppermint foot soother is another home remedy that you can use to get rid of crickets at night and it is easy to make too. You will need some peppermint leaves, a small bowl or jar, and a cloth. Take some leaves from your plant and wash them thoroughly in water before placing them in the bowl or jar. Pour 2-3 drops of essential oil of peppermint into the bowl or jar and place the cloth on top of it for about 10 minutes to let the essential oil act naturally on your feet during the night hours. The peppermint oil will work on all types of skin, including sensitive ones. It will also help you sleep better at night because it will give you relief from mosquitoes, flies, and other insects that may be present around you.

Conclusion

Crickets are a part of our ecosystem and they are beneficial as they help in pollination. But if you are dealing with noisy crickets at night, then you can use the home remedies listed above to get rid of them. Crickets are attracted to light, so you can use a thick curtain or a cricket barrier to block out light from your room. You can also use cedar chips, mint or basil plants, or an ultrasonic repeller to repel crickets and get rid of cricket noise at night.
