Welcome to the Readership
Institute's (RI) Reader Orientation Self Test. The objective of the
survey is to explore how focused a newspaper organization is on its
readers.
This self-assessment
test enables you to compare your newspaper's focus on readers with the
industry-wide results collected by the Readership Institute's Impact
Study. Management-level employees from your paper will complete the
self-assessment test. Your paper's aggregate score will be automatically
calculated and displayed in comparison with the industry norm established
in the baseline study.
- Assign an individual
at your newspaper to serve as project coordinator.
The coordinator should be a management
level employee from news/editorial, general
administration, marketing, circulation,
or advertising.
- The coordinator
will enter a user name and password of
his/her own choosing on the login page
and will take the survey.
- The coordinator
will then invite other management level
employees from your paper to take the
survey. The number of managers taking the
survey depends on the circulation size
of your newspaper.
- Under 50,000
circulation: 6 managers
- 50,000 to
99,999: 8 managers
- 100,000 to
199,999: 10 managers
- 200,000 and
larger: 12 managers
Although it is
not critical exactly who is selected, it
is important that half of the managers
come from news/editorial and the other
half come from the business side of the
newspaper, including administration, marketing,
circulation, advertising, production,
etc.
- The coordinator
will provide each of the selected participants
with the user name and password that he/she
used to take the survey.
- The participants
will take the survey using the coordinator's
user name and password. NOTE: Although
all respondents use the same user name
and password to access the test, none
can see the answers submitted by any other
individual.
- Once the required
number of surveys is completed, the self-assessment
test is complete. You will not be able
to take any more surveys using that user
name and password.
